I'm assuming by now, everyone is aware of the most recent call to black folks to switch to (or at least deposit $100+ at) a Black-owned bank. Has anyone who not was already banking with a black-owned institution made the switch yet or does anyone have plans to do so?
I have not, but I have been researching black-owned businesses and trying to put my money into them. there are tons of hair product lines, as well as general beauty/body care, and there's a lot of hair up in my house that needs allll the products lol.
Please also feel free to shout out any black-owned businesses you love in this thread.
A friend of my sister's started this candle company and I've been getting my life to these candles: www.228grantstreet.com/ Save
My mom belongs to Industrial Bank and my church has its own credit union. I have considered switching in the past long before this just to support black businesses but have been lazy.
Thanks for this list. Glad there is one in my city. Since I do everything with USAA (bank, credit cards, insurance), I honestly probably won't completely switch. However, I'll def look in to using them to have a local account since right now I have no brick and mortar bank.
My boyfriend was thinking about getting rid of his bank and switching completely, so I'll definitely tell him about this.
And yes can we please share black owned businesses. Make it an on-going thread/check in like the natural hair one. I can start a thread....
I'm technologically challenged. How do you tag everyone without doing it individually? Or do you have to do it individually?
Or maybe just re-title this post of yours to include black owned banks/businesses and add that we want everyone to contribute and keep an ongoign list.

I have a list I saved in my profile, that way I can just copy and paste. I will change the title.
But, please, do not ignore the bank question, dear readers lol.
This is beside the point, but is Carol's Daughters still owned by Lisa Price?
I remember when it started getting sold at Target, people were made because it seemed the ingredients had changed. (I've never used the products myself.)
But I was just wondering if she still owned it or if she sold the company because I also remember hearing that the stand alone stores were shutting down. I'm assuming she sold it for a pretty penny if she did!

There is a local lady here that makes lip balm that is da bomb. My lips have never been so moist. She also makes fantastic soap. Everything is all natural.
Her company name is SOS Bliss. She's on IG & FB. May have a website but I just buy her products locally.

I'm kicking myself because i actually worked in the Citziens Trust building years ago before GSU bought it and planned to put some money in there and never did. Anyway, my plan is to open an account and deposit the difference in my new raise there.
Thanks for the link about the bonnets! I'm in the market for a new one and this is perfect!
There are no black owned banks in my state it's also very difficult to find black own businesses in my area. There aren't many and the few that I know are never listed on Web directories.
I'm going to try more online businesses. My immediate needs are haircare but I'd like to find some clothing too. Please post your faves.
I love Shea Moisture. I have been using them since they were in a small boutique in NYC. I am glad they haven't sold to another company. I use their soaps and low protein hair products. I also use their kids stuff for DD.

I'll be saving money to take pinky to Paris when she graduates high school. Thanks to this thread, I'll be opening the savings account for that at a black owned bank.
miss jessie's and shea moisture are both black-owned.
the shea moisture coconut hibiscus line is my ride or die, foreal.
I wasn't sure about Shea moisture. That makes me excited! My ulta had a small display of SM makeup and I bought their cc cream. I like it so I'll be buying more makeup products. I haven't liked their hair products for my hair. DH likes the black soap skincare line.

What are your favorite products? I cannot survive without kinky curly knot today, but my girls can us just about anything. We try to keep it pretty natural ingredient wise.

Here is another list for clothing: black-exchange.com/apparelbytype. I was about to recommend a site where I've gotten some really cool t-shirts for DH and DS, but when I went to link it, the link didn't work. Did a search and learned they closed the store .
Thanks for the bonnet store, I will be in need soon (always lol). I also like Shea Moisture.
Thank you for this! H and I have been wanting to move some money to a CU for awhile -- kind of make it more of a hassle to transfer between accounts so we're less likely to use it. I am going to see what I can locate that is in my area.

I haven't looked at the bank list, but will check it out. I do try and support black businesses when I can.
A few sites I like:
NubianSkin (lingerie made for black women and other people of color, for whom nude does not work) G-hair wrap Qhemet Biologics (Hair products) Oyin Handmade (Skin and Hair Products)
I haven't used this site, but have seen it come up many times, webuyblack.com
Thank you for this! Ooh after some racist ass shit happened to me at the credit union a couple weeks ago, I sure could deposit some money into a black owned bank. I hope there are some branches near me!
If they're up with modern times closeness to you isn't a big deal.
My main bank is my grad school CU due to BS that BoA used to pull. I've had multiple auto loans with them even though I live almost 200 miles away.
Thanks, I meant to mention this earlier. OneUnited, although it has brick and mortar branches, started as an Internet bank. So, it's a good option for anyone without a branch nearby.
I received a group text about the banks from a friend. In it, it also talked about boycotting a couple of places for the summer but not posting about this on social media. They were Target and Coca-Cola. Does anyone know the significance of boycotting those companies?
The eleven year old daughter of a woman in my healthy hair group wrote this book/coloring book about 'curly girls'. I just ordered a copy for each of my 3 DDs

If they asked not to post on social media, why are you posting about it here? Isn't this basically the same?
